Age Output Queues (AGEOUTQ)

I want to create a tool to age output queues. This tool should move all spool files to another output queue based on age. Each iteration (ie..2 days) would be a different queue name. Eventually after a specified number of moves, the spool file would be deleted. If the spool file has been used (ie.. printed), it would not be moved again until after the proper number of days have passed. This would allow a spool file to stay on the system if it were still being used. The iteration period could be specified in a control file(or userspace) along with the output queue naming convention and the maximum number of iterations.

Well, Here we are!

I have moved to a new domain (in case you haven’t noticed).  I have decided to de-emphasize the “iSeries” in favor of “RPG”.  Since technically the “iSeries” no longer exists, it seems to make sense to start using “RPG” instead.  Please bear with me as the transition is completed.

Website – Redesign

As you may have noticed, the site has been re-designed. I have
removed all the frames and used a combination of <DIV> and
java scripts. The site should operate much faster and should
allow for better navigation.

Please let me know if you have any issues with the site’s operations.
I am new to this technique of design, so there probably things
I have missed.

One of the biggest changes you will notice is that, the site will
remember what page you were on when you return to the site (it is
using a cookie). This will last until you close your browser.
This way once you get to the download page (or some other page)
and you leave the site for some reason. When you come back, it
will pick up where you left off. Also, when you select a utility
for download it will come up in another window/tab. Each utility
has it’s own stand alone page and can be bookmarked for
later use.

New Tools – 2007-07-03

I have posted 4 new tools. 1 of them is a new tool and 3 of them were uploaded by other users.

The new tool (WHEREISIT), can be downloaded here. It is a tool that is designed to allow you to find where an object is being used. It utilizes the DSPPGMREF command to build a cross reference file and then uses the SQL tool to query the file.

The second tool (DATETIME) was uploaded by Bubba Casselberry and can be downloaded here. It is a Date and Timestamp formatter. Written in RPGLE, but using mostly Java prototyped calls.

The third tool (ISERIESCHT) was uploaded by an anonymous user and can be downloaded here. it is an iSeries Chat – AS/400 based chat utility that mimics internet based chat rooms.

The fourth tool (SENDPCF) was also uploaded by an anonymous user and can be downloaded here. It will Send a File VIA EMail – Convert any AS/400 data base file to .csv format and send via e-mail.

I have not used or tested any of the tools that have been upload by these other users, but they all do look like they can be good tools. Also keep in mind if you want the credit you deserve for these tools, you will have to give me your name when you upload these tools.

Tool Update

I have posted an update to the Free iSeries(AS400) Tools.
Most notably is the GETFFD utility.
I have also added a new procedure (FormatName) to the common procedures service program (ISTPRC). This procedure will retrieve the format name used by a physical or logical file. It utilizes the QUSRMBRD API and the MBRD0300 format.
The GETFFD tool uses the WRKDBF by default to edit files. If you are using some other tool to edit your files, you will need to change this tool.
As a general rule you should monitor the the last changed dates of the utilities you are using. I will usually try to place a comment and a change date in the tool when I change it. This date will be shown on the website when I post an update.
